General Questions

How often is Make Modern quilt magazine published?

Make Modern has been published every two months since 2014 – that’s six issues a year, 69 issues (and counting!). We’re publishing our final issues through the rest of 2026:
Issue 70: 8 May 2026
Issue 71: 10 July 2026
Issue 72: 11 September 2026
Issue 73: 13 November 2026
Issue 73 will be our last. After that, the website will remain open for purchases until March 2027, so you’ll have plenty of time to download and save your issues.

Where can I buy Make Modern magazine?

Make Modern is available exclusively as a digital magazine from our website. You can purchase individual back issues or grab the All-Access Pass for the complete collection of 73 issues in one go. While we don’t offer print versions, you’re welcome to print your own copies of patterns, templates or articles if you prefer to create using paper patterns.

What is the All-Access Pass?

The All-Access Pass is a one-time purchase that gives you instant access to every single issue of Make Modern as downloadable PDFs. That’s 700+ modern quilt patterns, hundreds of articles, and over a decade of quilting inspiration, yours to keep forever.

As new issues are released through to Issue 73 in November 2026, they’ll be added to your pass automatically at no extra cost.

I’ve never purchased a digital magazine. How will Make Modern be delivered?

Right after you purchase, you’ll get an email from noreply@sendowl.com with a link to download your PDF copy. You can read it on your computer, tablet or smartphone, and print your favourite patterns too. Single-issue purchases come with five downloads. The All-Access Pass allows 10 downloads but you can email us if you want us to reset this.

Important: Be sure to download and save your issues to your own device. The website will close in March 2027, so downloading and keeping a local copy (or a cloud backup) means your issues will be with you long after we close. Confused about this? We will be sharing lots of tips and tricks, and reminders to download as we get closer to wrapping up.

How do I save a copy of Make Modern?

We encourage you to do this sooner rather than later – your issues are yours to keep, but only if you have saved them before March 2027.

• On iPad/iPhone: Download the issue, tap the top-right corner, and choose Save to Books or your preferred PDF reader.
• On a computer: Download the issue, click File > Save. This will save a copy to your Downloads folder. Click and drag to move it to your preferred folder. We recommend keeping a backup on a USB drive or cloud storage, like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Can I submit a pattern or article to Make Modern magazine?

We’re no longer accepting new pattern or article submissions as we wind down the publication. A huge thank you to every designer and contributor who has been part of Make Modern over the years – you made every issue something really special!

Can I advertise in Make Modern?

Yes! We’re still accepting advertising through our remaining 2026 issues. Check out our Advertising page for rates and details, or get in touch by email to book.

I saw a pattern in Make Modern, but I can’t remember which issue it’s from. How can I find it?

Our Pattern Gallery has photos of every project ever published – all 700+ of them! You can search by designer, project type or technique, or just scroll through the categories until something catches your eye. See instructions on how to search our quilt pattern database for more help.

I’d like to find a specific article or topic from a past issue. Do you have an article index?

Yes! Check out our Article Index, where you can search for articles by topic, technique or author. If you don’t own the issue yet, you can purchase it from our shop, or grab the All-Access Pass and get instant access to the entire collection.

Can I gift Make Modern to a friend?

What a lovely idea! You can gift a single issue by adding it to your cart and following the checkout instructions – you can include a personalised message and choose your delivery date. The All-Access Pass also makes a brilliant gift for any quilter in your life and can be delivered on a specific date with a special message too.

I found an error in a pattern. What should I do?

We understand the importance of your time (and fabric!) which is why we take great care to ensure our patterns are accurate. Despite this, mistakes can occur and we’re sorry if one has caused you trouble. Please email us at info@makemodern.com.au and we’ll look into it. Corrections for older issues are posted on our Errata Page. 

Subscription Questions

I have a subscription but can’t find my link. How do I access my issues?

Your download link was sent via email (from noreply@sendowl.com) when you subscribed. If you paid via PayPal, it may have gone to the email address linked to your PayPal account. Check your junk folder first, then request a copy of your order here. Still stuck? Email us at info@makemodern.com.au and allow 2-3 business days for a reply.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To cancel, click on the manage your payments link in the yellow bar at the top of your download link, and select Cancel. Please make sure you download and save all of your issues before your subscription ends – once it expires, your download link will no longer be active. Need help? Email us at info@makemodern.com.au and allow 2-3 business days for a reply.

What happens to my issues when Make Modern closes?

Any issues you have already downloaded are yours to keep forever. The website will remain open for purchases until March 2027, so you have time to download everything before then. After that, the site will close and download links will no longer be active.

Our strong advice: download everything now and save a backup copy! A USB drive or cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox works a treat. As we near closer to our closure, we will share lots of tips and tricks, and reminders to download so our readers don’t forget.

Refund and Returns Policy

We want you to be happy quilters, and happy readers! While digital goods aren’t returnable, we understand situations may arise. Please email us within 30 days of your payment if you encounter issues and we’ll do our best to help. Refunds (minus a $2.50 processing fee) may be issued where extenuating circumstances have prevented proper use. Please allow 2-3 business days for processing. We do not offer refunds for change of mind or unintended purchases. Once a purchase has been accessed – including downloading any issues – it is considered used and non-refundable.

Shipping and Delivery Policy

Make Modern is a digital magazine, so there are no shipping fees. Once your payment is processed, your issue or All-Access Pass will be delivered to your inbox. Check your junk folder if you don’t see it, and email us if there are any problems.
