Sue Bone

Q: How long have you been quilting for?
A: Dare I admit that I have been quilting for over40 years and started as a teenager with hexagons after reading about it in a UK work called Golden Hands. I still have my first finished quilt.

Q: What’s your favourite colour?
A:I love jewel tones as they suit my coloring and avoid green and brown where possible. For jewellery I prefer silver to gold.

Q: Do you starch your blocks?
A: I use Flatter (a non starch starch) when I press backings. It is also useful on fabrics for FPP, as you can get away with finger pressing seams. A friend makes her own starch with cheap vodka, I need to get the recipe for that!

Q: What project is on your quilting bucket list?
It is good to go to a retreat with wither lots of small or on big project to work on. Jersey Modern Quilt Group have a retreat planned for early February and I am planning to cut Casserole by Elizabeth Hartman ready for the weekend. The background will be a silver Essex dyed linen paired with Alison Glass’s Luminance.

Q: How old is your oldest WIP/UFO?
A: For the past two years my local group has organised a UFO challenge and every year I put down big projects, so I still have the TQS BOM from 2014 to quilt in 2022.

Sindhu Aragam

Q: What’s your favourite colour?
A: I come from the tropical region in the south of India. So it’s no wonder my favourite colour is Forest Green.

Q: What are your other hobbies?
A: I’m an avid Harry Potter and Marvel fan, always on the lookout for a theme based project that combines my love for knitting and quilting with this. My yarn stash competes with my fabric stash for closet space!

Q: Do you do your own quilting?
A: Yes. Most of the quilts I make are bed quilts and I prefer them to be soft and cuddly. Hence the quilting is a basic stitch-in-the-ditch or widely spaced straight line quilting at best, easily accomplished on the domestic sewing machine.

Q: What’s your go-to info source when you have a quilty problem?
A: I learnt most of what I know about quilting from Pinterest and YouTube. Pinterest also has links to a lot of blogs that are a veritable source of information.

Q: Do you enter your quilts into quilt shows?
A: Yes. I entered a quilt in a show for the first time early this year. My quilt An Enchanted Reverie won the first place in the Theme category at the India International Quilt Festival.

Marushka Volkova

Q: What’s your favourite quilting tool?
A: I don’t know what I would do without my rotary cutter and quilting rulers.

Q: Do you prewash your fabrics?
A: I rarely prewash my fabrics, but I always iron them with a steamer. Sometimes I even do it twice.

Q: What’s your favourite quilting technique?
A: I love to use the quilt as you go method. It’s so easy, fun and quick.

Q: Do you prefer solids or prints?
A: I often mix solids and prints in my projects, but sewing with lovely bright prints is much more interesting.

Q: Do you do any other crafts?
A: I made scrapbook cards, albums and pages for many years, but then I decided to start sewing. Now scrapbooking is back in my life, because I realised that it brings me a lot of joy too.
