Make Modern Issue 52

There’s a big difference between daunting and doable when it comes to anything, but we are so lucky to live in a time where we can cross that divide by taking readily available shortcuts and learning from easily accessible information. In quilting, this might mean a different technique to help us make a project more achievable, an alternative method that might make it easier, or more enjoyable, than the ‘traditional’ way of doing it, or an app that helps us out! There are so many ways to make quilts, and using methods that make shortcuts of traditional practices isn’t cheating, it’s progress. Never let anyone tell you that something ‘should’ be done a certain way, or that you’re not a ‘real’ quilter if you don’t design your own quilts or do your own quilting or stitch your binding down by hand. It’s not ‘cheating’ if you buy kits or pre-cuts, or you use that fancy applique stitch built into your machine. Instead, let’s celebrate that there are so many ways we can create amazing quilts without being daunted by the process, and just get out there and make beautiful things!
