As we come to the end of the year, many of us are already starting to think ahead to 2023. It’s just around the corner! Brand new year – that must mean it’s time to start a brand new project, right? Any excuse to start something new 😉

We’ve chatted with some of our Make Modern contributors, past and present, to bring you a round up of events coming soon. There are techniques of all types, quilt-alongs, free patterns, subscription clubs, and block of the months (BoMs) … let’s just say there’s something for everyone. So let’s get to it!

Chockablock

Hand-piecing BoM Program

A striking quilt along

Sarah's Softies QAL

Traditionally pieced modern quilt along

Sarah from Sarah’s Softies is hosting a quilt along to create this tradtionally pieced modern quilt. It starts in January. You can sign up to Sarah’s mailing list to get the directions emailed to you weekly, join the QAL community on FB, or buy the pattern on Sarah’s website.

Shoreline Shells

Fun FPP BoM

Sheri from Whole Circle Studio is hosting a fun foundation paper pieced Block of the Month called Shoreline Shells. With each block you’ll get instructions, tips, and tricks for to how piece the blocks two ways—for the circle layout and the grid layout. There are lots of ways to customize your Shoreline Shells quilt, including with add on sea glass (pattern sold separately) to fill the center of the quilt. Not only will you have a pretty quilt at the end of the year, but you’ll also gain valuable skills and have fun!

What is Love?

15 free modern quilt blocks

Organised by Brooke of Eudaimonia Studio, and featuring a number of previous contributors to MM, this fun event, What is Love? celebrates love with 15 free modern quilt block patterns in a range of techniques. Each from a different designer, these blocks represent the diversity of ways we define, experience, and think about love. Sign up to receive all 15 block patterns when they become available on February 1st.

Mystery Sampler

Free BoM

Siobhan from CDM365 Studios is hosting a mystery sampler that focuses on a different skill or technique each month. This is a little preview of the January block. The BOM is offered for free to CDM365 Newsletter subscribers, instructions will be posted monthly in the “Subscriber Section” of the website.

Women of Wisdom

Quilt Along and devotional journey

Starting in February, Leanne of Devoted Quilter is hosting a Quilt Along and devotional Journey, The Women of Wisdom. It will feature 40 daily devotions while also making a lovely modern quilt in the lead up to Easter. Registration opens in January, but join the waitlist now to be first in the know.

Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge

Whew! that’s a whole bunch of beautiful and inspiring projects to get you digging into your stash and ready to sew your way through the new year or maybe try out some new techniques!
