What’s in Make Modern Issue 54?

This week we celebrated nine years of publishing Make Modern – Happy birthday to us! With each birthday, we like to do something different to mark the occasion and this year, we decided it was time for a little refresh. If you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll notice the difference, and if this is your first issue – what a great time to start reading! Inside the cover you’ll find a fresh new look, but still the same great content written by our team of quilters for quilters just like you. We hope you love it!

You know those weeks (months…seasons…) where it’s just a LOT? Our Editor, Jane, is currently in the middle of one of those. There’s plenty to be done, but none of it is quilting related. So, it would follow that she should probably put the sewing machine away for a while and get on with the more important stuff … except that not sewing is not good for her mental health! It doesn’t take long in front of the sewing machine for her mood to improve and even just a good fabric petting session is sometimes all she needs. We often get bogged down with the idea that we need large blocks of time to sew which is a bit like saying that the only kind of R&R that’s worthwhile is a month-long cruise, when a weekend away or an afternoon at the park can make you feel refreshed. The same goes for sewing, you don’t need a quilting retreat or full afternoons of sewing time to recharge those creative batteries. It’s amazing what you can achieve in small blocks, even just 15 minutes at a time. The key is to find out what works best for you … read Jane’s words of wisdom in Issue 54.
