More About This Issue
What do you suppose non-quilters think of when they hear the word ‘quilter’? Old-fashioned images of women cutting fabric by hand and sitting solitary in front of a sewing machine? A mindless activity for those with too much time on their hands? Of course, we all know this couldn’t be further from the truth. Quilting is so much more than the process of cutting up fabric squares and sewing them back together. Quilting is good for the brain. It’s an opportunity to tap into an inherent love of creating that becomes lost to so many of us when we become adults. It’s learning new techniques. It can become a meditative activity that slows our minds and gives us time to ponder and reflect. Quilting is good for the soul. Quilt making can be immensely rewarding and a source of pride. The joy that comes from snuggling under a quilt that you made yourself is a feeling that cannot be bought at the store. Quilting is good for the heart. It’s a wonderful community builder. Nothing connects people like a common passion. And whether you’re getting your quilt community fix from social media and connecting with people from all over the world, or in real life at a quilt group, it’s a valuable source of kinship. It’s so much more than just the finished quilts, or the process of making them, or the friends you make from a shared interest – quilting is a holistic hobby that enriches us on so many levels.
In Issue 49 we MEET American modern quilters Steph Skardal and Shereece Nicole, and Australian pictorial art quilter Ruth de Vos. We MAKE beautiful modern triangle quilts, and a handy lanyard bag to take to quilt shows. We finish the year with a wrap up of our Smash That Stash article series where we encourage you to organise and sew from your stash, and the final part in our Colour Theory workshop. There’s a gallery of stunning modern temperature quilts, and a discussion about grief-motivated creativity, which is the beginning of many quilters journeys. All this plus tips and tricks from our expert quilting team to get us up and raring to quilt!

Why Readers Love Make Modern
The whole team does a fantastic job and the magazine often has very good competitions.
an app would be excellent to keep all copies in one place but this still works well enough.
